Hotel Arnika in Oberammergau

Used Arnika many times, and stayed in a newly refurbished suite - really excellent standard with bath and shower and plenty of space. Great greeting from the owners and spotless in the room and excellent breakfast despite the Covid restrictions - first choice when inOberammergau for me.

Staying at the Arnika is like visiting a haunted house in a theme park: you'll pay good money to feel disgust, alienation, discomfort, and then relief when it’s over. There are very good reasons why the Arnika is one of the cheapest hotels in Oberammergau, but still the last to fill up. I have to agree with the other reviews here: the owners (i.e. the only people manning the reception) are truly horrible to deal with. In person they were worse than on the phone. Patronizing, hostile, self-serving. Their demeanor goes beyond any normal tolerance for "some people are just naturally warmer than others" - instead it seems like pure contempt for guests. You can say ‘good morning’ to them, but they just walk blankly past. They run a hotel but seem to hate dealing with guests. The Arnika's owners are a classic example of managers with no interest in quality or hospitality, just in exploitation. I speak fluent German and live in the region, so this perception is not down to any language barrier or culture shock. But what about the rooms? That depends how much you enjoy cold showers and finding pubes in your bed. Please enjoy the attached photos illustrating how filthy the rooms were. You get the idea, but there's more. The booking was for two single rooms, and that is what we got. Sort of. One room was exactly as pictured online (just without the decorative flourishes), so no problem there. The second room, however, was down the road, in the basement of the owners' house. So there was no daylight, but at least there was hot water for the shower. The other room (back in the main hotel) was bright, but, despite my best efforts, the shower remained as icy as the hospitality. Sleep quality was terrible: worn-out mattress, creaking bed frame, thin curtains, no sound insulation. It is hard to cool the room: noise from the car park, road, stream and pigeons precludes leaving the window open when you're hoping to sleep. So this hotel is a no-go if you have to go to work the next day. To be fair, the breakfast was very good. The team there was warm and attentive. The selection and the quality were above average. For example, the fruit salad was mostly fresh (rather than canned) and the coffee machine made a great cappuccino. Eggs are cooked to order and skillfully garnished. The booking process is very dodgy. I booked via Hotel.com as normal, but then a few days later the hotel refunded that payment and asked me to send my credit card by e-mail. After first confirming with Hotels.com that the hotel can legitimately do that, I phoned to give my card details and was treated like a bratty child for the three-day delay between their request and my response. They refused to issue a receipt. That level of contempt before even paying should have been a red flag, but I needed the room and the Arnika was the last option available. Covid-19 prevention rules which hotels have to follow were partly in evidence, but the strikingly low cleanliness level in the rooms and many missing requirements during breakfast were concerning. All a three-star hotel has to do is provide a clean bed, warm shower and breakfast. A personable welcome is a bonus. I give this hotel one star because they managed one of those.

Room was clean and the toilet also 👍🏾 reception crew were friendly a lady and a man, whom i guess is the owners of the hotel. We couldn't figure out that hair dryer has a security switch on the side of the hook! We requested for a new one and we got it right away. Breakfast was well organized and packed to avoid contamination ( almost every meal was wrapped up in a plastic) workers and guest were keeping to the law of wearing face mask. We enjoyed our stay here!! Location very quiet and relaxing!! You can feel the nature around you⛰🌳. Supermarket is just few mins drive away. We do recommend this hotel!! But make sure you got all you need from the hotel staffs before the get off work...nobody is there at night if you need anything...they have a closet on the hallway with fresh room service amenities!! You can grab some if you need to change ie your bedsheets and so on! The car parking lots has enough space for all the guest i guess. The reasturant is not open yet due to the situation on ground (covid) so eat out for lunch and dinner . Hopefully the will open the reasturant when things gets going!! Overall top!!!👍🏾

Great location (close to hiking tracks), and not too far away from Oberammergau: 4min by car). Very clean rooms and friendly staff. Our room had such a lovely view from two sides to the mountains. They took the measures against corona virus very seriously and I felt safe both in our room and in the restaurant. The only thing wich was a little bit annoying was the shower. The draining speed and water pressure didnt match and you couldnt take a long nice shower.

Nice hotel with good standards. The room I got was fine. Good cleaning, friendly staff and good breakfast. The location is quiet and there is a spacious parking for cars in the back of the hotel

Stayed at Arnika several times. Listed as a hotel, felt like a small gasthaus. Food was good-excellent/was always happy with meals there. Parking is really good if driving (if not, its a short taxi ride from the train station). Walking distance to downtown or the NATO School was the biggest plus for me.

Great hotel, very friendly, helpful staff. clean rooms with excellent beds. Beautiful environment with a great view on the surrounding mountains. Meals in the hotel are very good and reasonably priced. Reservations for Wednesday schnitzel evening are necessary.

Excellent little hotel in Oberammergau. I recommend staying here if you want a quiet family friendly hotel close to all the hiking trails, indoor water park and cable car. The hotel is not downtown which makes it must quieter and quaint without all the tour buses bringing people in and out all the time like downtown. The room was very nice with a beautiful bathroom and spa like shower. Breakfast was delicious and the restaurant also has a special schnitzel night every Wednesday. I highly recommend everyone stay here and enjoy the amazing views :)

One of the best places we stayed while on our tour of Europe. Nice people and great food!! Pictures are views from my room and in front of the hotel. The other pictures are just as true. They were remodeling some rooms and I am sure it will be better than ever when we return.

It meets the standards. Clean and cozy. Breakfast a bit boring but typical for Bavaria.

What a wonderful meal! Service was very good & the view of Kofel was fantastic!
